Royal Troon Golf Transfers & Chauffeur Tours
Royal Troon on the Ayrshire coast is a two-halves links: an outward nine downwind along the beach, an inward nine grinding straight back into the prevailing westerly. The 8th, the Postage Stamp, is the shortest hole on the Open rota — 123 yards, five bunkers, brutal in wind. Troon last hosted the Open in 2024 (Xander Schauffele) and returns regularly.
Founded 1878, granted Royal status in 1978 on its centenary. Nine Open Championships to date, including Bobby Locke (1950), Arnold Palmer (1962), Tom Weiskopf (1973), Tom Watson (1982), Mark Calcavecchia (1989), Justin Leonard (1997), Todd Hamilton (2004), Henrik Stenson (2016) and Xander Schauffele (2024).
Return chauffeur transfers to Royal Troon (Old Course) start from £750 return from Dundee and from £700 return from Edinburgh Airport (EDI), with clubs, luggage and waiting time included.
Drive times: Prestwick Airport (PIK) — 10 min (3 mi); Glasgow Airport (GLA) — 40 min (30 mi); Glasgow city centre — 45 min (33 mi); Turnberry — 35 min (18 mi); Loch Lomond — 1 hr 20 min (50 mi).
Recommended vehicle: Rolls-Royce Ghost or Mercedes Vito. Prestwick is 10 minutes away — a Ghost transfer from the tarmac to Troon's 1st tee is one of the shortest luxury arrivals in Scottish golf. For a group in from Glasgow, the Vito is right.
Ayrshire coast — 3 courses: Day 1 Prestwick Old (the birthplace of the Open, 1860). Day 2 Royal Troon. Day 3 Turnberry Ailsa (30 minutes south). This is the definitive west-coast Open rota tour, base at Turnberry or the Marine Troon.
Prestwick pickups are our specialism for west-coast golf — clubs off the plane, into the boot, on the range within 20 minutes. Chauffeur waits during the round.
Is Prestwick Airport better than Glasgow for Ayrshire golf? Yes if flights work — significantly shorter transfer to Troon, Turnberry and Prestwick Old.
Can we play Royal Troon as a visitor? Yes — visitor times are available Monday to Thursday.
What about the Portland Course? Same site, easier round — a good warm-up before the Old.
